Director-Varadraj Swami, who has penned the critically acclaimed film Manjhi the mountain man, is all set to treat the audience with his next film “KABAAD- THE COIN”.
Kabaad-The coin portrays the blind race that is being run towards attaining money and compels to think out on the reality of the ultra-modern youth's mentality. They want to earn a lot of money, have enjoy, fun and party, Money is god, Money is everything, it doesn't matter how the money comes right and wrong. The story revolves around a boy named as Bandhan, who lives in the chowl of Mumbai. One day he finds a bag, full of gold coins, (antique piece) which is being searched by Mumbai police, underworld, and is also by a drug addict couple Sam and Roma. Abhishek Bajaj and Zoya Afroz.
Kabaad-The Coin runs around a Ram Siya coins, no one has ever made a film on the Ram- Siya Coin. It is lost in the pages of our history. The film explores the human emotions of greed & how it damages relationships & ruins lives”
Actor Vivaan Shah says.“Trying to play a kabaadiwala was a fascinating process. We have all observed hatgadi pullers on the road in our everyday life, but to truly replicate the nuances, body language and cadences of a Ragman required some focused study and observation. The way they pull the cart or the calls they send out across the streets in order to sell their wares. It is all very specific and needed to be replicated authentically” further adds “In these, I played a servant boy, a driver, a waiter and a Dalit respectively. I would say Kabaad- The Coin belongs to a similar category where it has a ploretarian hero. I find that more interesting than playing a big city boy or a privileged person. The director Varadraj Swami and the writer Shahzad Ahmed were of invaluable help to me in trying to render true the nuances, speech, and practices of a kabaadiwala. Also what the three of us had fun with was the Bumbaiya language. I’m playing a Maharashtrian character called Bandhan and I just had a blast speaking in Bumbaiya because that is the language I have grown up speaking with my friends on the street. It’s a vernacular I am deeply familiar with and hopefully I have been able to represent it authentically in the film”
“I love both realistic and slightly fantastic cinema. It was an immense challenge to play a character that was outside the realm of my experience and also from different strata of society. I’ve played a working-class character about 4 times now. In 7 Khoon Maaf, Bombay Velvet, Laali ki shaadi mein laddoo Deewana and Meera Nair’s suitable boy.”
Further adds Vivaan Shah. Varadraj Swami One of the most talented directors, it’s a great pleasure for me, working with him. I learnt lot from him; he is a new age master filmmaker.
Directors Varadraj Swami says. When an artist borns in an environment, where art is being talked around all the time, from the parents to the entire environment. In such a situation, the expectation of that person to be a talented artist becomes strong and society also expects the same from that person. These things fit exactly on Vivaan Shah and Vavaan sets on this parameter. In fact, acting in the blood of Vivaan Shah. And this is very beneficial for a director in the current era; I can also get the acting done to Veevan Shah the most difficult character in today's date. I believe in his skill.
Writer Shahzad Ahmed says. Actually, this film is based on the human psychology of money. Which expresses so many feelings of love, romance, greed, pain, deception and deceit. We often get to hear that there is nothing if there is no money. Money is everything, it is God, it is mother, father etc. Money money money…there is a war going on all over the world about money. Everybody is dying for money and money is killing to everybody. This is the basic concept of this film. After that, next stage comes concept converts into a story, story converts into a screenplay. It was very challenging for me that I did with the director Varadraj Swami. Varadraj Swami is a great magician.
