The National alliance of Journalists(NAJ)and the Delhi Union of journalists (DUJ), have called for a halt to the increasing attacks on the media, both physical attacks, attempts to browbeat the media into government tom-tomming and other attempts to muzzle the media during the past few years.
It has noted not only increasing intimidation of the media but even attempts to block programmes critical of the government which smack of an undeclared emergency.
Simultaneously, the two bodies, in a statement today have noted that a session of Parliament has virtually ended with no announcement on the due wage board, for working journalists and press workers, the plight of journalists in the electronic industry and even non-payment of statutory wages for months at a stretch and the loss of jobs even in the so called national papers and well-known TV units.
What is to be noted further is 90% contractualisation of the news industry which also encroaches into freedom of the press.
